Sammie Besford - Incoming Youth Exchange in 2014-15
Sammie is our current inbound student. She has come from the town of Cambridge in New Zealand.
Sammie's parents are Shona and Iain and she has four older siblings - Chris living in Scotland, Stewart in NZ, Owen studying in Scotland and Ashley.
Her host family in while she is here are the Wetemans at Scotts Creek. Damon Wetemans will be hosted by Sammie's family when the reverse exchange occurs.
She was welcomed at Tullamarine by her mentor, Gary Kimber and the Wetemans family.
She attended her first meeting at the Cobden Rotary Club on 16 April, where she was present for the induction of three new members.
She was accompanied by her host Mum and host brother.
Sammie hopes to become an avionics engineer, like her dad. She's considered a cheerful person by her teachers at Cambridge High School. Sammie enjoys learning about other cultures and meeting new people. She's fitness and sports minded. She's even met a snake here while out for a fitness run! She's a kickboxer and is up to her fourth belt. She's also a cheerleader for her school.
ANZAC DAY - Sammie together with Damon and Georgia laid a wreath at the Cobden cenotaph as part of the Centennial Commemoration of Anzac Day in Cobden. Given the significance of Anzac Day to both our countries, this was a special moment in the history of our exchange students and our Club.
Our students represented us well - congratulations!
Sadly, Sammie has returned home early. Gary Kimber travelled with her to Tullamarine on 26 May and she is safely back home in New Zealand.
